If your kids like a little spookiness along with their tricks and treats, this list of scary (but not too scary!) halloween movies is sure to hit just the right note. Widely considered to be one of the best kids' movies ever, scary or no, spirited away is a masterpiece from beloved director hayao miyazaki.

Please see my other lists for different ages. Last horror films i've enjoyed was the wonky vhs/ vhs2, rec 2 and red state. Most of the age ratings were found at common sense media, but parental discretion is still advised.

But with very young kids, anything scary or super intense will probably be too much. I looked long and hard. Little mermaid even bothered me, in the scene when flounder almost gets fried in the kitchen.

But you need to choose the right ones. The movie is rated pg for scary content and thematic elements. So far the only two movies she loves beginning to end are the newish curious george movie and my neighbor totoro.

Some of the popular disney movies can also be a bit too much to take for these youngest ones. I should mention that there are many more movies which i think someone should have seen by the age of 8 (like 'toy story' or 'the lion king'), but which are not on here because they are rated for a lower age bracket. Ugh, so many movies are scary for little kids.

I was so sensitive as a kid! While some movies are only for adults, some scary movies can be watched by the younger. At the end of the list (page 2) are movies that have not yet come to theaters, but will possibly turn out to be appropriate for this list.

The chill we feel, the anxiety we have and the relief we get once the suspense is out, make the movies worth watching both for adults and kids/ teens alike. And my 3 year old likes the strawberry shortcake movie, though she said that was too scary too, haha. It has ten or eleven songs, and it was a good way to introduce them to the movies without the scary stuff.

Some of my daughter's favorites are toy story and toy story 2 madagascar and madagascar 2 cars cinderella tinkerbell mary poppins and about a million others. Most movies are aimed at 17 year olds. As attention spans grow, kids get eager to watch longer movies.

Parents are the ones who know their children best, so if you think your kid might fall under this umbrella, maybe scary movies should stay on the shelf. In some ways, this age group is full of the harshest movie critics. Stine's scary collections of short stories are generally aimed at kids about 9 to 12 years old, and the movie targets that age group as well.

But not every toddler movie is effective. Pop some popcorn and gather up the family.
